In-person extracurriculars on hold until 1/17/2022

Scarborough High School Winter Athletic Families:

Due to the high number of COVID positive cases (SHS reported 74 confirmed cases of COVID-19 last week, confirmed 26 additional cases this morning, with more cases pending) and the approximate 15% of the SHS student absences due to illness, Scarborough High School will be closed to in-person learning and switching to remote learning starting tomorrow, Tuesday January 11th, through Friday, January 14th. All in-person extracurricular activities at SHS will also be suspended for the rest of this week, as well as vocational programming at PATHS and WRVC.  We anticipate being able to return to in-person schooling on Tuesday, January 18th and full in-person athletics on Monday, January 17th

We encourage all families to continue keeping our health services team (Nurses and Athletic Trainers) informed of your child’s status and health.  We also recognize midterm exams are scheduled for next week, and by having all students learning remotely, staff will be able to more equitably support student preparation for their assessments.  Our SHS leadership team, along with district leaders, and health services, met multiple times over the course of today.  We do not arrive at this decision lightly, and recognize the importance of in-person learning as well as the value of our extracurricular programs including athletics, music, drama, clubs, and activities.

It will be challenging to reschedule all games. For most sports, this winter, the MPA tournaments are an "open tournament"' format -- games canceled due to COVID do not count in the heal point standing calculation. We have asked coaches to continue to be in touch with athletes (virtually) during this "shut-down" period. Please carefully watch the RSchool schedule for schedule updates and changes. Coaches will also keep athletes and families informed.

Thank you
